304 and 316 stainless steel

We use 304 and 316 stainless steel. 316 contains molybdenum, which makes it more resistant to corrosion — it is the grade used in surgical instruments and for pieces worn against the skin.

Steel is durable, hypoallergenic in most cases, and does not tarnish the way plated brass does.

Finishes

Pieces come mirror-polished, brushed, or with a warm gold tone achieved by PVD coating — a hard-wearing finish that does not flake like traditional plating.

What we avoid

We avoid nickel-heavy alloys and lead. Where a piece is plated, the base metal is still stainless steel, not brass.
